The Mid West & Gascoyne receives $9,869,620 for 2 projects from the Building Better Regions Fund

• $9,082,620 for the construction of a new industrial waste management facility in Onslow, the only facility of its kind in Western Australia.  The new facility will be a highly cost effective alternative for the mining industry in the Pilbara, Gascoyne and Mid West.
• $787,000 for the Upgrade of the Shire of Yalgoo Dual Use Sports Oval and Facilities, improving and upgrading an important part of the Yalgoo community.

The Mid West and Gascoyne regions will receive a boost following news they have won $9,869,620 in Federal funding through the Coalition Government’s Building Better Regions Fund, Member for Durack Melissa Price announced today.

“Both of these projects are important to their communities, but they are important for two very different reasons” Ms Price said.

“The Onslow project is a fantastic example of an initiative that both improves the community and improves the economy of a regional town.

“The project will provide jobs to the town, a boost to the economy and will be of regional benefit, as this new industrial waste management facility will service industries right across regional Western Australia

“The upgrade of the Shire of Yalgoo Dual Use Sports Oval will provide a great benefit to a fantastic town in the Mid-West, which has been crying out for some Federal Government investment.

“I know sporting facilities are often the beating heart of regional towns, and it is no different in Yalgoo, so it’s great to see this investment come through.

"The Building Better Regions Fund received more than 500 applications and only about 100 projects were successful.

“I am extremely proud to say that 9 projects in total were funded in Durack, meaning about 1 in 10 projects nationwide were in my electorate.

Minister for Regional Development Fiona Nash said she created the Building Better Regions Fund to help build strong communities for decades to come.

"I aim to help build the kinds of regional communities our children and grandchildren either want to stay in or come back to, and projects like this one do exactly that," Minister Nash said.

“After a competitive merit-based selection process, there are always those who were not successful and are naturally disappointed. We know this and we've got dedicated staff in the Department of Industry to give tailored feedback to each unsuccessful applicant to help improve those applications for next time. They can be contacted on"

Minister Nash said she expected to open another round of BBRF before the end of the year.

Minister Nash will announce the successful applicants for funding under the BBRF’s Community Investments Stream – for projects designed to support a range of local capability-building activities – in the coming months.
