Cervantes residents advised to switch to NBN before May 11 cut-off date
May 2, 2018
The 18 month migration period for Cervantes residents to switch to the nbn is nearly over, with residents advised to make the transition before it is too late.
May 11 will mark the turn-off date for phone lines and internet services in town not already provided by nbn.
Federal Member for Durack Melissa Price said the residents would have received 5 notifications to move to nbn, including a final notice via registered mail to warn them of the impending decommissioning date.
“It is really important that Cervantes takes advantage of the switch over while it is available, and take advantage of the service while they can” Ms Price said.
“I have long campaigned for better mobile phone and internet services in regional areas, because I know how utterly frustrating it can be not being able to access those services while working regionally.
“Cervantes has a high number of households that haven’t transitioned onto the nbn yet, and time is fast running out.
“I do not want to see one person in my electorate disadvantaged or left without services because they have not taken action during the change-over period.
As Cervantes has a high number of holiday homes, it is likely this is one of the factors contributing to a lack of take up of the service in the town.
However, to ensure everyone who wants to access internet and phone services can and will be able to, all residents are encouraged to make the switch before May 11.
