July 19, 2018
Federal Member for Durack Melissa Price is thrilled to announce Geraldton Regional Airport will now be able to forge ahead with its $24 million upgrade with a funding boost of $10 million from the Federal Government’s Building Better Regions Infrastructure Fund.
“This is fantastic news for the region and I have worked hard to achieve this outcome,” Ms Price said.
“It will be a major boost for tourism and trade and really put Geraldton and the Midwest on the map.
“The $10 million funding is part of the Federal Government’s $641 million BBRF and I am pleased to be able to announce this grant to help the City of Greater Geraldton to strengthen and extend the runway by 420 metres to allow the operation of larger aircraft,” she said.
The City of Greater Geraldton has provided $7.5 million towards the project and the WA State Government has provided the remaining funding of $6.5 million.
The project is expected to create 47 jobs during delivery and another 30 ongoing jobs.
The funding is part of the Federal Government’s $641 million BBRF program.
