Minister Price opens Bencubbin Multipurpose Complex redevelopment

Federal Member for Durack and Minister for the Environment Melissa Price said more locals in the central Wheatbelt are set to enjoy regional sporting and community events thanks to a $2.6 million redevelopment of the Bencubbin Multipurpose Complex, which is now officially complete.

Opening the complex redevelopment earlier this month, Minister Price said the Australian Government was investing in community and sporting infrastructure upgrades across the country to ensure that regional communities remain great places to live, work and raise a family.

“The Bencubbin Multipurpose Complex is an excellent example of this commitment in action, with our investment helping deliver a great facility for this community, as well as supporting five ongoing local jobs, which is a welcome boost for the local economy,” she said.

Minister Price said the redeveloped complex, which included a new function space, change rooms and spectator facilities, would bring the local community together and help create a vibrant and active region.

“We expect well over 6,000 people will use these fantastic facilities every year to play a range of sports, including bowling, netball and hockey, as well as attend the agricultural show and other community functions and events held at the complex,” Ms Price said.

Shire of Mt Marshall Shire President Tony Sachse said it was imperative that Council continue to support the residents of the shire and beyond with suitable infrastructure to engage in purposeful activities.

“The Bencubbin Multipurpose Complex development gives our shire future scope to engage with the wider community by utilising this dynamic multipurpose facility. At the same time, it creates a local hub to support current users of the facility, whether it be for sports training, a sporting meet, social gatherings, events or workshops,” Cr Sachse said.

The project was jointly funded, with the Australian Government investing $917,400 and the Shire of Mt Marshall $1,694,571.
