Durack electorate services invited to share in $40m aged care boost

Federal Member for Durack and Minister for the Environment Melissa Price welcomed both Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s announcement of a Royal Commission into Aged Care, and the invitation for aged care providers to apply for funding to improve their operations.

Durack aged care services are being invited to share in $40 million now available to improve their operations, for the benefit of local seniors.

“The new Aged Care Regional, Rural and Remote Infrastructure Grants scheme is an important part of the Federal Government’s commitment to providing the best quality aged care for our treasured senior Australians,” she said.

Funding will be provided via an open and competitive application process.

Minister Price said aged care providers could apply for one-off grants of up to $500,000 to undertake infrastructure extensions.

“Whether it’s improving accessibility, extending a kitchen or carrying out much-needed upgrades, I urge local operators to consider applying,” she said.

“Existing Government-approved residential and home care providers can apply.

“Approved Commonwealth Home Support Programme providers such as Meals On Wheels may also be eligible, where there is an exceptional need.”

Minister Price said she welcomes the announcement of a Royal Commission into Aged Care.

“Incidences of older people being hurt by failures of care simply cannot be excused.

“As a community we expect high standards for the quality and safety of aged care services. Our Government shares these expectations.

“This Royal Commission will be about proactively determining what we need to do in the future to ensure these expectations can be met,” said the Minister.

“The Royal Commission will look at the quality of care provided in Residential and Home Aged Care to senior Australians; and also include young Australians with disabilities living in Residential Aged Care.

“We are committed to providing older Australians with access to care that supports their dignity and recognises the contribution that they have made to society.

“Opposition Leader Bill Shorten has twice refused to back a royal commission into aged care.”
Applications for the Aged Care Regional, Rural and Remote Infrastructure Grants will close at 2pm AEDT on 24 October 2018.
