Federal grant for new teacher housing at Rawa Community School
December 14, 2018
Rawa Community School’s Kunawarritji Campus, via Newman in the Pilbara, will benefit from new teacher housing thanks to a Federal Government grant.
Member for Durack Melissa Price said the Federal Government would provide $117,000 towards the project at Rawa Community School through the Capital Grants Program.
“Students and teachers thrive when their schools have modern and up-to-date facilities – that’s why the Federal Government is proud of the Capital Grants Program, which has benefited thousands of schools across the nation,” Ms Price said.
“This upgrade will help with new teacher accommodation and the benefit will flow on to the students and the wider Durack community.
“I congratulate Rawa Community School for their successful grant and look forward to seeing the impact this improvement will have on their community,” said Ms Price.
School Principal Sarah Mortimer said this was a really big moment for the school.
“More families are moving back to the community and currently we have high school students in with primary students,” she said.
“The only thing that has been stopping us from having a high school was having a second house for teacher accommodation, so this really is a big moment for our school.”
The Government has committed $660 million until 2021, which provides funding for non-government schools to improve capital infrastructure.
