Wheatbelt volunteer organisations get helping hand

Volunteers play a critical role in helping shape Australia and building stronger and more resilient communities.

Their generosity permeates almost every aspect of Australian society; whether it be helping out local sporting clubs or land care groups, assisting our most disadvantaged, or helping recover from natural disasters.

Federal Member for Durack Melissa Price welcomes the Australian Government’s funding for the Volunteer Grants 2019, to support and encourage volunteering in local communities.

“Around 5,000 community organisations around the nation will benefit from this funding, supporting more than 280,000 volunteers, and I am pleased that 36 Durack organisations have been successful with a total of $145,690 under these Volunteer Grants,” she said.

“Four organisations in the Wheatbelt were successful receiving a total of $13,419.”

The successful organisations will receive grants of between $1,000 and $5,000 to purchase small equipment items, contribute towards the cost of training courses and background checks, and to help to reimburse volunteers for the cost of their fuel or transport.

Successful Wheatbelt volunteer organisations:

  • Moore Catchment Council - $5,000
Computer and software to help keep track of Moore Catchment Council business and fuel reimbursement for volunteers.
  • Dowerin Sub Centre - $3,970
Team networking and debriefing space for Dowerin Sub Centre St John Ambulance volunteers.
  • Goomalling Bowling Club - $1,500
For a laptop to centralise the club’s information removing the need for volunteers to use their own devices.
  • Narembeen Sub Centre $2,949
Equipment for use by Narembeen Sub Centre St John Ambulance and local fire brigade volunteers for outdoor debriefing and inter-organisation get-togethers.
