WESTERN AUSTRALIA’S REGIONAL LIBERAL TEAM TAKE THEIR SEATS IN PARLIAMENT
November 11, 2013
Three newly elected regional Members of Parliament - Christian Porter in Pearce, Melissa Price in Durack and Rick Wilson in O’Connor- will be sworn in by the Governor General on Tuesday.
During the Federal election campaign the Liberal trio emphasised they would use their access to key decision makers inside the Liberal team to be strong voices for regional Western Australia. This week the three new Members confirmed they fully intend to deliver on that commitment.
Christian Porter stepped down as WA’s State Treasurer and Attorney-General to contest the Federal seat of Pearce after former Member Hon. Judi Moylan announced her retirement. “I look forward to putting my experience and knowledge to good use as a part of the regional Liberal team, working to get a fairer share for country WA.”
Melissa Price said the role of a Parliamentarian was to deliver results for the electorate. “I want the people of Durack who have issues and concerns to bring them to me ,so I can take those issues to the decision-makers in Canberra and seek resolution. I will be standing up for regional WA on critical issues I raised during the election, such as aged care facilities and improving major road infrastructure in Durack,”she said.
Rick Wilson said access to those decision-makers was a valuable advantage for the electors of O’Connor. “During the campaign we made the point that being part of the Liberal team meant we would be able to take concerns to our colleagues, and expect to be listened to and to make a contribution regarding decisions that impact on our electorate,” he said. “Now we can start delivering on important issues discussed during the election, like funding for regional schools, which had been forgotten by the city-centric former Labor government.”
All three new members have established their electoral offices and are open for business. Christian Porter’s office is currently in Greenmount, and Melissa Price has opened offices in Geraldton and Broome. Rick Wilson has offices in Kalgoorlie, Albany and Katanning, and expects to open additional offices in Manjimup and Esperance within weeks.
