Young Paraburdoo woman named as future rising star
November 12, 2013
A career, and ultimately, a life in politics is often not at the forefront of a young woman’s mind, but
is one that should be encouraged, according to the newly elected Federal Member for Durack
“Any program or group that dedicates itself to advocating for more women to enter into politics,
such as the hard work of the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP), must therefore be
congratulated,” Ms Price said.
CWP’s latest effort to engage young women was a great success, with 10 women aged between 18
and 25 being selected to attend the w.comm forum in Sydney, paired with a federal representative.
“As the newly elected Member for this great region, it is therefore with great pleasure that I am able
to congratulate our very own Paraburdoo resident, 18-year-old Karess Dias, for her selection as a
WA representative,” Ms Price said.
“Karess will join her representative colleagues from around Australia, and one young woman from
Norfolk Island, for a range of workshops and activities at the end of this month.”
In an inspiring quote that helped secure Karess’ selection, she said: “This world and the workforce
seems to be set up for a man, not catering to the needs of women at all. That’s why politics is
dominated by men – it was made by them and made for them.”
Ms Price said she looks forward to listening out for the name Karess Dias, as she continues to
progress through the political sphere or in leadership roles.
