New base station improves mobile coverage in tourist thoroughfare
September 28, 2018
Mobile reception in a remote area south of Exmouth has been strengthened under the Federal Government's mobile black spot program.
A new mobile base station was this month turned on at Minilya a well-used tourist thoroughfare between Coral Bay and Carnarvon on North West Coastal Highway to improve mobile coverage in the area.
Durack MHR Melissa Price said the switch-on would be a boon for people travelling through the area.
"Mobile coverage for this area will be fantastic for locals and tourism throughout the region; it is a highly utilised area for tourists heading both north and south, and west to Exmouth," she said.
Minilya is the latest of 85 sites in Durack to receive new or better mobile reception through the $220 million government program.
The mobile base station was installed by Telstra.
