Cancer care pledge gets backing
May 8, 2019
Candidates from the three major parties agree more cancer care is needed in Geraldton.
Nationals WA candidate for Durack Scott Bourne has echoed commitments from Labor and Liberal party candidates for a radiation therapy centre and a dedicated prostate cancer nurse.
Labor has promised an additional 34 prostate nurses across Australia.
"If I am elected, I will send a message loud and clear that Geraldton, Durack and WA should get our fair share of that," Mr Bourne said.
Labor candidate Sharyn Morrow said one of these nurses would be based in Geraldton if her party won Government, and Member for Durack Melissa Price said she would also fight for this if reelected.
Ms Price last week announced a Budget allocation for a radiation therapy centre in Geraldton - to which the Labor candidate quickly gave her support.
Mr Bourne said he also supported the move.
"I also want to make sure radiation oncology services are available in Geraldton so people in the city and surrounding areas don't have to travel to Perth for treatment . . . it is essential that people living outside of Perth get the same access to services as those in the metropolitan area," he said.
