Mayor pushes for CBC funds

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn has called on the Federal Government to fund vital CBD upgrades, facilitate urban renewal, attract tourism investment and increase liveability.
Mr Van Styn said the council had already approved the upgrades as part of the the City's CBD Master Plan and was now working to get the money to implement them.
He said together with planned upgrades to Geraldton Hospital, it should be funded in a "City Deal" for Greater Geraldton similar to those already granted to Geelong in Victoria, and Queensland's Townsville and Fraser Coast.
Member for Durack Melissa Price said the Commonwealth had already increased hospital funding via grants to the State Government and would continue to do so.
"On a city regional deal, I would fight, together with the City, for that type of Federal support," she said.
"Just like I did for Geraldton to secure the recent $10 million grant to upgrade the Geraldton Airport, the new radiation therapy centre in Geraldton, and the $1.8 million to expand the Geraldton Universities Centre."
She also mentioned recent sports infrastructure funding for GNFL clubrooms upgrades to accommodate female GNFL players, and upgrades to Geraldton Surf Life Saving Club and the Geraldton and Yuna Tennis Clubs.
All other candidates for Durack were invited to comment.
